Twitter Pauses Public Requests for Profile Verification
Posted On June 6, 2021
A couple of weeks earlier, twitter started accepting the verification requests after it was paused in 2017. But now, Twitter pauses public requests for profile verification, in order to clear the backlog. It seems like Twitter, the microblogging and social networking service, is overburdened with the requests and will only resume once it is done with the backlog.
On Friday, Twitter announced that it wouldn’t take any further requests. This indicates that the users will have to wait a little longer to get coveted blue tick beside their name on the profile on the micro-blogging messaging app.
After five long years, users of twitter thought that they would now successfully get their blue tick. But the wait isn’t over yet. Twitter has further mentioned that it will gradually roll out the application form. Eve before many could submit the application, the process was put on hold. While many users are annoyed with this, some still are waiting for the application form to roll out again.
Getting a blue tick beside the name on the profile, allows better acknowledgement, and the opinion is also heard. The blue tick situation was put on hold earlier in 2017. This happened when twitter received severe backlash for giving blue tick to a white supremacist. The verification process was now brought back with some new set of guidelines. The guidelines were clear enough to brief the users about the eligibility criteria. It further mentioned that only after series of reviews, and after the submission of all the proofs and links, one would be verified.
In one of the blog, twitter mentioned that users belonging to the categories including Government, companies, brands, and organizations, news organizations, entertainment, sports and gaming, activists and other influential individuals will get their profile verified.
Moreover, in response to a question related to new projects in August, twitter product lead Kayvon Beykpour, mentioned that “That and finally fixing verification so that I stop getting hundreds of verification requests daily”. So, it is no surprise that Twitter’s system has been bogged down with applications after one week.
